HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Whether you’re preparing for a wedding or looking for a fun way to relieve stress, a new dance studio in Honolulu is sharing the art of ballroom and Latin dancing.

Tony Meredith, a professional ballroom dancer, choreographer and U.S. Professional Latin Champion, co-organizes the annual Aloha Ball dance competition in Waikiki and returned to the islands full-time after a successful career on the mainland.

“I actually spent some of my childhood living here in Hawaii,” Meredith said. “I want to bring dance and my experience back to my stomping grounds in Hawaii. My hope is to elevate ballroom dancing in the Hawaiian Islands.”

He started the Aloha Ballroom Company, a new dance studio on 770 Kapiolani Blvd., which offers lessons in 20-30 different dance styles, from the waltz and tango to salsa, cha cha and swing. He gave HNN’s Sunrise a quick lesson in salsa dancing.

The studio mostly offers private instruction where you work one-on-one with a professional dance instructor. You can bring a dance partner if you have one but not required. Your dance instructor can be your partner.

Hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. To book a lesson and find out about upcoming group classes and social dance parties, visit alohaballroomcompany.com, follow on Instagram @alohaballroomco or contact them at info@alohaballroomcompany.com and (808) 282-6819.
